''We don't see things as they are we see things as we are''
Anais Nin
What is Mediation? Mediation is a process fro resolving disputes in which another person i.e. the mediator helps the parties who have two or more different perspectives, process their differences and negotiate an agreement. The mediator is impartial throughout the process. The outcome or agreement comes from the disputants.
Why Choose Mediation?
In one sense, mediation is not a big deal, yet a two hour mediation session can create a turning point in a dispute or conflict that has manifested itself for some time. Success lies partly in the mediators skills but also with the readiness of the parties. Disputants may wish to resolve a conflict in an informal setting as opposed to going through the grievance process. Mediation offers just that. The disputants reach their own outcomes therefore making agreements much more positive and lasting.
The Mediation Process:
The mediator meets with each disputant to hear their story of events. The mediator holds joint session(s) with the disputants in a safe carefree, confidential environment. The disputants reach their own outcome or formal agreement.
Benefits of Mediation:
Mediation is less costly not just in finincial terms but also it helps repair damage to working relationships. Mediation restores healthy and positive working relationships going forward. It has and can save companies the time and cost of loosing valuable employes and the need to replace them. Mediation prevents the disputants from having to go through the unnnessary stress related to other forms of conflict resolution. Mediation is faster than going through formal grievance procedures. Mediation is effective. The solution comes from the disputants. It is not an imposed solution. Disputants agree on the outcome making it more likely to last. Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process. Information shared is confidential. Mediation is a problem solving process. Mediation helps parties solve a problem but does not solve the problem for them. Mediation focuses on what can be done, not on assigning blame. Mediation focuses on interests(needs) not positions(rights)
